Every now and then a song stops being just a song and becomes linked to a memory.
That’s what happened with Fast Car for me.
I was practising the song at home for the first time when one of my daughters started clapping along. It wasn’t planned and it wasn’t a performance. It was just one of those little moments that sticks with you.
After that, I knew I had to learn the whole song.
Years later, it’s still one of my favourite songs to play live. I’ve performed it at weddings, drinks receptions and events, and it always seems to connect with people.
I’ve now recorded my own acoustic version and shared it on Spotify.
One of my favourite things about this recording is the Spotify Canvas. The video that plays alongside the song is the original clip of my daughter clapping along while I practised. It feels a bit like keeping a diary and capturing a moment in time.
Fast Car is one of those rare songs that works almost anywhere.
I’ve played it during wedding drinks receptions, relaxed evening events and intimate acoustic sets. It has a calm, familiar feel that allows people to listen closely or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
For me, the best songs tell a story, and Fast Car does exactly that.
If you’re planning a wedding or event and are looking for live acoustic music in Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas, I’d love to hear from you.
